ABS-CBN Orchestra To Perform John Williams Scores by Yugel Losorataby admin
The relatively new 40-piece ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is set to pay tribute to the music of American conductor John Williams in a concert set on September 2 at Meralco Theater.
This was announced during a recent media invite at the Dolphy Theater at the ABS-CBN compound where the ensemble under the baton of Gerard Salonga performed some numbers, including a rendition of Mike Hanopol’s classic rock “Laki Sa Layaw.”
“Everybody has his way of getting into classical music,” said Salonga in one of his spiels. Salonga expressed his desire to bring orchestral music closer to Filipino audiences and urge the youth to appreciate it more.
The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, servicing its mother network and its subsidiaries, is now holding educational outreach programs for grade schoolers and high school students. “Orchestral music caters beyond high society,” Salonga implied.
Williams is a Hollywood legend known for his unforgettable film scores that graced some of cinema’s biggest blockbusters, including background music that put instant recall to movies “Jaws,” “Superman,” “E.T.,” “Star Wars,” and “Indiana Jones.”
